Building on a solid foundation
The annual Nordic Investor Insight report has just been published - outlining the current thinking among institutional investors and fund selectors in the Nordic region as well as identifying key trends likely to impact the industry over the coming year.
In our annual asset allocation and outlook roundtable, hosted in Stockholm in December last year, Cecilia Thomasson Blomquist, the chief investment officer of Swedish PP Pension, highlighted worries about the US market saying the pension fund had reduced its allocation during the autumn. “The development can of course continue for another year or another two years, but suddenly it will not,” she stated. That sudden volatility showed itself in early April when Trump announced his tariffs. In the same discussion, Claes Ahrel, managing director of the Telia Pension Fund, shared his tactics for how to prepare for unexpected events: “We don’t normally do the short-term trading, but when things happen, it’s good to have dry powder in order to capture those moves,” he said.
A similar sentiment was echoed by Mikael Huldt, chief investment officer of Swedish insurance company AFA Försäkring, in a recent interview in Nordic Fund Selection Journal. He talked about its increased focus on tactical allocations and said that the activity will reflect market opportunities –“Considering the market environment going forward with Trump coming in, I think markets will be volatile and provide opportunities”.
We regularly gain insight such as the above from Nordic asset owners and fund selectors during the numerous events we host across the Nordic region each year. We also frequently sit down with institutional investors and selectors to understand their strategies and investment thinking, which is reported online and in our print magazine.
We bring some of that insight together in our annual Nordic Investor Insight report with the hope and ambition to provide a better understanding of the opportunities in the Nordic region and to provide insight on the current thinking among institutional investors and fund selectors in the Nordic region as well as identifying key trends likely to impact the industry over the coming year. With the current gyrations in markets and in the geopolitical sphere, it’s more important than ever to ensure a solid foundation and getting the basics right.
