Nordic Fund Selection Forum 2024 – Stockholm
On May 16, Tell Media Group welcomed fund selectors and institutional investors to the 17th annual Nordic Fund Selection Forum in Stockholm, hosted in cooperation with Allspring Global Investments, Capital Group, DWS, Franklin Templeton, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and RBC BlueBay Asset Management.
The half-day event, hosted at Operaterrassen in central Stockholm, kicked off with an insightful keynote presentation from Mike Winnerstig, head of the department for security policy at the Swedish Defence Research Agency. In 30 minutes, he took the audience on a geopolitical journey – from the international security policy after the end of the cold war, where the future of the world was liberal and business friendly, to the current state of global instability with deteriorating US-Russia relations, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, partly shaky US-EU relations, China challenging the world and a reversal of globalisation. And he explained why all of these things are happening.
The morning continued with the participating fund managers presenting and discussing their asset classes at six different tables of investors and selectors. The asset management speed-dating format was very appreciated and much more interactive compared to standard presentations from stage.
Topics covered included “Climate transition global equities: you don't have to leave returns on the table” (Allspring), “Global equities: long-term themes and trends for 2024 and beyond” (Capital Group), “European small- and mid-caps – maybe the alpha richest equity segment in Europe” (DWS), "Emerging markets equities: the case for Indian equities – what makes it stand out?" (Franklin Templeton), "Impact investing: discover green and social bonds" (Goldman Sachs Asset Management) and "Emerging markets fixed income: combining competitive returns with impactful outcomes" (RBC BlueBay Asset Management).
To conclude the event, Nick Wood, head of investment fund research at Quilter Cheviot Investment Management in London, shared his thoughts on the trends in manager selection.
A short movie from the event has been published on LinkedIn.
